Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has hit out at leaders from Western Kenya for failing to come out and stand in solidarity with the Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
Speaking at a church service at the Kitale Pentecostal Church in Tiwani, Amisi said Natembeya’s recent arrest by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) was an act of State intimidation. He said the deafening silence by leading political figures from the region were being seen, heard and interpreted by voters.
“Natembeya is being arrested for criticizing the Ruto government and not because of corruption as is being alleged. As leaders from Western, we won’t allow this form of political persecution to continue unchecked,” said Amisi.
He further noted that Natembeya was at the forefront of championing interests of the region and it was shocking that avowed crusaders of democracy from Western Kenya had abandoned him in his hour of need.

In a veiled attack on National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetangula and Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi who have both laid claim to being kingpin of the Luhya community, Amisi said there would be no cohesion until the people learn to defend their own.
“This is a case where we stand by and watch one of our own persecuted for criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government and then expect the voters whose assets he’s defending to vote for us. Such hypocrisy must stop.”
He urged leaders from the region to rally behind Governor Natembeya, just as he had done during the governor’s arrest, and called for unity in defending voices critical of the government.
