United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirant in the upcoming Malava by-election, Enock Andanje, has died after collapsing during a public event on Friday.
Andanje, a respected educationist and immediate former Principal of Bungoma High School, was attending a widows’ empowerment forum in Malava — an event graced by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi — when tragedy struck. Witnesses say he suddenly collapsed moments after arriving.
Efforts to resuscitate him at the venue failed, and he was rushed to Oasis Hospital, where medics pronounced him dead. The cause of death is yet to be established, with authorities confirming that a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
Malava sub-county UDA secretary Harrison Tanga revealed that Andanje appeared unwell upon arrival.

“His feet became weak and he could not step out of his vehicle. We rushed him to hospital, but unfortunately he was pronounced dead,” Tanga said.
Dr. Andanje, who recently took early retirement from the education sector to venture into politics, was seen as a strong contender for the UDA ticket in the Malava by-election. The poll was called to fill the vacant parliamentary seat left after the death of Malulu Injendi.
His passing now throws the race into uncertainty, with UDA primaries just weeks away.
