Former Siaya County Assembly Clerk, Felix Olwero, was on Sunday night shot dead by police during an operation in Seme, Kisumu County.
According to a police report, officers from Kombewa Police Station responded to a distress call shortly after midnight following a suspected burglary attempt at Whitehouse Resort. The establishment’s manager, Sandra Okech, had reported what would have been the fifth attempted break-in at the premises.
Police said they cordoned off the resort before six men, armed with pangas and machetes, emerged from a nearby thicket. During the confrontation, one of the suspects allegedly charged at the officers, prompting a police officer to open fire. Olwero was fatally shot in the incident.
The body was later taken to Kombewa Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Authorities are yet to clarify Olwero’s involvement in the attempted break-in, as investigations into the incident continue.
