The County Government of Siaya has moved to tighten staff medical cover, assuring employees of smooth and uninterrupted access to healthcare services.
At a consultative meeting with insurance broker Jonsele Insurance and medical underwriter Britam, County Secretary Joseph Ogutu—representing Governor James Orengo—said the county is determined to put staff welfare first.
Britam outlined the benefits, with allocations pegged on job groups from KSh150,000 to over KSh200,000, and listed accredited hospitals both within and outside Siaya. Employees were further assured that refunds for out-of-pocket expenses will now be settled in just five working days.
Director of Human Resources Susan Raba praised staff for their cooperation and urged them to share suggestions to help improve the cover. “This is a joint effort. Together we can make the scheme even better,” she said.

Mr. Ogutu clarified that a few grey areas were being addressed with Britam to ensure fairness for all cadres. He also revealed that 16 public hospitals will be included in the cover—cutting travel costs for staff while channeling more revenue back to the county through insurer payments.
“The Governor wants every county worker to get healthcare without stress or delays,” Ogutu told staff.
The move signals a major step in boosting staff morale and productivity, with the county banking on a healthy workforce to drive better service delivery.
