Public Service Commission (PSC) Vice Chairperson Mary Kimonye has underscored the central role of communication in strengthening leadership, governance, and trust within Kenya’s public service.
Speaking during a media training workshop in Naivasha on Monday, Ms. Kimonye said clear, timely, and deliberate communication is essential in avoiding confusion and inspiring confidence across government institutions.
“Communication inspires confidence, builds trust, and rallies support,” she told participants.
Kimonye emphasized that communication is not only a tool for internal cohesion within the public service but also a bridge to the millions of Kenyans who rely on accurate information to understand government policies and decisions. She further noted that the media remains a critical partner in this mission, serving as the channel through which public servants engage with citizens and stakeholders.

“The media provides the platforms through which we engage with citizens, clarify policies, and demonstrate accountability,” she added.
Echoing her sentiments, Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo stressed that robust communication strategies are indispensable in countering misinformation, addressing media bias, and restoring public confidence in institutions.
The two-day workshop, organized for PSC Board members, provided a platform for sharpening communication skills, strengthening relations with journalists, and enhancing collaboration between the Commission and the media.
Organizers said the training marks part of a broader effort to professionalize leadership communication in the public sector, with the ultimate goal of building a responsive, transparent, and citizen-centered service.
