The County Government of Siaya has joined hands with the Stewards of Grace Organisation in a new green initiative aimed at enhancing environmental conservation and beautifying the Governor’s office compound.
The exercise, themed “Environmental Conservation and the Beauty of the Governor’s Office for a Sound and Effective Working Environment,” saw officials from both the county and the NGO plant 20 tree seedlings within the Governor’s compound in Siaya town.
Speaking during the event, Director of Governance George Okelo said the initiative underscores the County Government’s commitment to promoting a clean, green, and pollution-free workspace.
“We are creating an environment that not only inspires productivity but also contributes to the national goal of achieving 10% tree cover by 2030,” Okelo said.

He was accompanied by Francis Aola, Director of Disaster Management, George Ouma from Administration, and Patrick Amolo, a representative from the Stewards of Grace Organisation.
The exercise is part of a broader effort by Governor James Orengo’s Nayalore administration to restore Siaya’s forest cover across all sub-counties. The County’s strategy aligns with President William Ruto’s national tree-planting campaign, which aims to combat deforestation, improve air quality, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
According to Mr. Amolo, the partnership is a small but significant step toward creating eco-friendly and aesthetically pleasing public spaces.
“Planting trees is not just about meeting national targets; it’s about transforming our working spaces into healthier, more inspiring environments,” he noted.
The Siaya County Government’s long-term environmental agenda focuses on both indigenous and fruit tree planting, targeting improved biodiversity, food security, and sustainable livelihoods.
As the seedlings took root in the Governor’s compound, county officials reaffirmed their dedication to making Siaya a model of green governance—where public administration and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.
