Police in Port Victoria, Busia County, have recovered a stolen bull and arrested two suspects in a well-coordinated operation that stretched into Siaya County, amid growing concern over a surge in livestock theft across the region.
According to police, officers from Port Victoria Police Station acted on a timely tip-off and successfully traced the stolen bull to Nyadorera Market in Siaya County on Sunday. The operation followed a report made on October 30, 2025, by a local farmer whose bull had gone missing.
The suspects, who were allegedly attempting to sell the animal at the market, were swiftly apprehended. The bull was positively identified by its rightful owner and later handed back to him.
Police commended the vigilance of local residents, saying that collaboration between the public and law enforcement was crucial in cracking the case.

“We appreciate the timely intelligence and cooperation from members of the public, which led to the successful recovery of the animal and arrest of the suspects,” said an officer involved in the operation.
The arrests come at a time when Siaya County has been grappling with a worrying rise in livestock theft, particularly in parts of Alego-Usonga Constituency. Residents of Kabura Wangadia and surrounding villages have in recent weeks reported repeated incidents of cattle rustling, with farmers counting heavy losses as their animals disappear under mysterious circumstances.
Local leaders have called on security agencies to step up patrols and dismantle the criminal networks believed to be behind the thefts, some of which reportedly involve cross-county livestock trafficking.
The two suspects are currently being held at Port Victoria Police Station and are expected to be arraigned once investigations are concluded.
Police have reaffirmed their commitment to curb the trend, urging livestock owners to brand their animals and report any suspicious activities promptly.
“We are intensifying patrols and working closely with the community to ensure such incidents are reduced and those involved face the law,” the officer added.
As security operations continue, residents in Siaya and neighboring Busia counties are being encouraged to remain vigilant, with authorities emphasizing that community cooperation remains the strongest weapon against livestock theft.
