Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has concluded that veteran politician Cyrus Jirongo died in a straightforward road traffic accident, with no evidence of foul play.
The former Cabinet minister perished on the night of December 13, 2025, along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway near Karai after his Mercedes Benz vehicle being struck by a bus.
A multi-disciplinary team of homicide detectives, forensic experts, and intelligence officers swiftly processed the scene, analysed CCTV footage from Eagol Petrol Station, reviewed amateur videos, and recorded statements from key witnesses—including Jirongo’s wife Ann Lanoi Pertet, the bus driver and conductor, seven passengers, and prominent figures who met him hours earlier, such as Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula.
“Based on evidence gathered and analysed to date, the incident appears to be a road traffic accident, with no indications of foul play,” the DCI stated.
The file will now go to the Director of Public Prosecutions for possible charges against the bus driver.

In a separate statement, the DCI extended condolences to Jirongo’s family and urged the public and leaders to avoid speculation that could prejudice the case.
