From Dusty Paths to Smooth Drives: How These Projects Will Change Lives Across Luo Nyanza
Imagine a mother in Mbita rushing her sick child to hospital on a smooth, all-weather road instead of battling mud and potholes during the rains. Or fishermen in Homa Bay getting their fresh catch to market faster, fetching better prices. That’s the reality coming soon for thousands in Luo Nyanza, thanks to a massive infrastructure push in the FY 2025/2026 budget.
Hon. Samuel Onunga Atandi, the outspoken Alego Usonga MP and Chairman of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee, has fired back at critics from the region who claimed Luo Nyanza was being sidelined. In a bold statement, he revealed that the area has secured funding for an impressive 37 new tarmac roads, all currently under procurement.
“In my capacity as the Chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, and following wide consultations with key stakeholders, I allocated funds for the tarmacking of the roads listed below,” Atandi said. “These roads will open up regions, improve ease of movement, and support trade and economic activities across our communities.”
He added: “Infrastructure development remains a key pillar for inclusive growth and regional transformation.”
For residents long frustrated by poor connectivity, this isn’t just politics – it’s life-changing. Farmers in remote areas like Rachuonyo and Migori will transport produce without spoiling, schools will stay accessible year-round, and businesses will boom as trade flows easier around Lake Victoria.
Construction crews will soon be on the ground, turning dust into durable tarmac and creating hundreds of local jobs along the way.
