National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed has firmly denied allegations by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna that he mismanaged Sh500 million in campaign funds donated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta for party agents in the 2022 elections, and that he is “selling” the party by brokering deeper cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration.
In an interview, Junet stated that the funds were handled by Uhuru’s brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, and another individual, and that Raila Odinga was fully aware of the arrangements yet retained him in key roles, signalling trust. He dismissed the “broker” claim, insisting ODM’s engagement in the broad-based government—following the Gen Z protests and Cabinet dissolution—was driven by Raila’s prioritisation of national stability, not personal gain.
Junet described the dispute as a “personal issue” he prefers not to escalate publicly. Party leaders, including Ida Odinga and several MPs, have urged the two to dialogue to avert further divisions amid ODM’s post-Raila leadership vacuum and ongoing talks with UDA ahead of 2027.
