While public rallies are still months away, the real 2027 Siaya contest is already being fought behind closed doors. According to a party insider who spoke to SiayaToday on condition of anonymity, ODM’s candidate lineup for governor and senate is being shaped not by the ballot, but by whispered deals in Nairobi boardrooms and phone calls from Bondo.
This isn’t the Siaya voters will see on posters. This is the version ODM leaders don’t want out until nominations.
The governor’s race is a three-way standoff, and the mole says the current math inside ODM HQ favors experience over incumbency networks.
Eng. Nicholas Odero Gumbo is pushing hardest, arguing he’s the senior-most Luo politician still seeking county office. Party sources say mainstream ODM leadership is leaning toward a Gumbo-Denge ticket, with Deputy Governor Dr. William Oduol slotted as running mate. The logic: Gumbo brings national clout, Oduol brings administrative continuity and youth appeal.
But Oduol is not buying the idea. In typical fashion the Deputy Governor wants an all-out contest where the electorate decides.
There’s also a wild card in the form of Speaker George Okode. His proximity to Governor James Orengo gives him access to county machinery, but the insider claims that’s a double-edged sword. “If Orengo stumbles into national politics with baggage left behind, Okode inherits it,” the source said. Orengo’s own presidential flirtations mean he’s already mentally vacating the governor’s office, opening space for succession battles.
Will Okode and Oduol work out a concession or will the contest be decided on the nomination line?
The senate race is where the family dynamics get complicated, as per the mole.

Senator Oburu Oginga has declared he’ll defend his seat. But behind the scenes, the insider claims that declaration is strategic misdirection. “He’s signaling he’s still in the game to freeze out early challengers, while quietly testing successors who can keep the Odinga name at the top of Siaya’s pyramid,” the source alleged.
Former Governor Cornel Rasanga Amoth has reportedly been talked out of a Senate run. The reason isn’t popularity, it’s clan dynamics. Rasanga is said to have been convinced he can easily ouster Alego-Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, who now commands an incredible campaign war chest being chair of the Senate Budget Appropriations Committee.
Other names like Zacky Masiro, Oscar Omondi and Nick Ongoro are circulating in party circles as serious contenders, despite quiet skepticism from some elders about their campaign experience, and of course, financial clout.
The mole revealed that even during the days of Raila Odinga at the helm of Luo politics, Siaya ODM nominations were, and are, still filtered through three lenses:
1. Ida Odinga : No ticket moves without her signal.
2. Church elders’ blessing – Archbishop Emeritus Okoth and Bishop Wesonga have long set the moral tone of vetting candidates
3. Cash + clan math – financial muscle and sub-clan balancing always trump manifesto talk.
The ODM ticket Siaya sees in 2027 will likely be decided by June 2026, long before campaigns begin. By then, at least one veteran will have been persuaded to “step aside for unity,” and at least one newcomer will have been promised a direct ticket.

Siaya voters will still have the final say. But if this insider is right, the menu will be written long before it gets to the ballot table.
SiayaToday will continue tracking these underground maneuvers. If you have information from inside ODM strategy meetings, our DMs are open.
