A cloud of anguish hangs over Nyadorera village in Usonga Ward, Siaya County, as a mother’s desperate search for her missing son enters yet another painful chapter.

Catherine Atieno Obonyo, a middle-aged resident living behind Gilgom Church, is appealing to the public for urgent assistance in locating her 12-year-old son, Samson Odhiambo, who mysteriously disappeared on January 19, 2026.

According to Catherine, Samson went missing while on his way home from Nina Special School in Siaya town under unclear circumstances. What has deepened the family’s distress is the revelation that the boy reportedly left the institution unaccompanied—raising serious questions about student safety and supervision at the school.

Samson Odhiambo can hear but he cannot speak

“My son has a speech disability. He is not deaf, but he cannot speak,” Catherine explained, her voice heavy with emotion. “This makes him extremely vulnerable. He may not be able to ask for help or explain where he comes from.”

She believes this condition could be a major factor in the prolonged search, as Samson may be unable to communicate his identity to strangers or authorities.

Despite weeks of searching across Siaya and beyond, there has been no trace of the boy. The search has now extended to Nairobi, where his father resides, in the hope that someone may have spotted him.

Catherine says Samson responds warmly to the names “Baba” and “Aboy,” a detail she hopes could help anyone who may come across him to get his attention.

The distraught mother is now making a heartfelt appeal to Kenyans: “If you have seen my son or have any information, please report to the nearest police station or contact me. I just want my child back.”

Anyone with credible information is urged to reach out via 0742 689 644 or report immediately to local authorities.

As days turn into months, Catherine’s plea grows louder—a painful reminder of a mother’s unwavering hope and the urgent need for collective vigilance in protecting vulnerable children. If you want, I can make it even more tabloid-style explosive or adapt it for radio/TV bulletin format.
