The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has ordered the immediate arrest of Isiolo Governor Ibrahim Abdi Hassan Guyo and seven of his close allies over allegations of kidnapping and robbery with violence.
In a hard-hitting statement issued Friday, September 5, the ODPP said the charges stem from a violent attack in June targeting Abdirahaman Mohamed, former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health, and several Members of County Assembly (MCAs) backing Guyo’s impeachment.
According to investigators, the shocking incident unfolded at Outbark Hotel in Maanzoni, Machakos County. CCTV footage allegedly shows the governor arriving with his associates before Mohamed was disarmed, beaten, bundled into a vehicle, and driven to Ruai Sewage area. There, he was blindfolded, threatened, assaulted, and abandoned.
During the ordeal, Mohamed reportedly lost a licensed Glock pistol loaded with 15 rounds, an iPhone 16, Ksh70,000 in cash, and other personal belongings.

The ODPP identified Guyo’s alleged accomplices as Abdullahi Jaldesa Banticah, Dade Boru, Abdirashid Ali Diba (alias Ngila), Abdinur Dima Jiilo, Ahmed Duale, Josephat Mwangi Komu, and Yusuf Maina.
“The evidence gathered places Governor Guyo and the co-suspects squarely at the scene. The DCI has been directed to apprehend and arraign them on charges of kidnapping with intent to cause grievous harm and robbery with violence,” the ODPP said.
Political Fallout
The arrest order comes just two days after Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok was charged with money laundering and conflict of interest over Ksh2 million county contract kickbacks, marking yet another governor under fire in a widening crackdown on county chiefs.
Legal analysts say the back-to-back prosecutions signal a renewed push by the ODPP to hold powerful county bosses to account amid growing public anger over impunity in devolved governments.
If convicted, Governor Guyo faces life imprisonment under Kenya’s tough anti-robbery laws — a staggering fall from grace for a man once considered a rising star in Isiolo politics.
