In a dramatic political development that has rocked Siaya County, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) held a high-level meeting with President William Ruto at Eldoret State Lodge, conspicuously without Governor James Orengo, where they pressed hard for accelerated development and pledged full backing to national initiatives.

Led by County Assembly Speaker George Owino Okode, the MCAs engaged the President on aligning national development programs with Siaya’s priorities. According to sources familiar with the discussions, the ward representatives were unequivocal in their demands: ongoing projects must be expedited without delay, and new initiatives fast-tracked to ensure tangible impact for residents.
They dismissed what they described as “mixed signals” from Governor Orengo regarding the broad-based government arrangement, insisting that development should rise above political divisions. Top priorities highlighted included the completion of the world-class Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium, construction of a modern market in Siaya’s Central Business District, and urgently upgrading the Siaya County Referral Hospital to a fully equipped Level 4 facility.
In a significant gesture, the MCAs offered unqualified support for both local and national government programs—a move seen as a direct rebuke to Orengo, a veteran ODM figure long critical of deeper cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Orengo’s notable absence from the Eldoret meeting has intensified speculation about his political future. Insiders suggest the governor, may be sensing mounting local challenges. Political observers note that for a seasoned figure like Orengo, contesting at the national level—potentially even presidential—could be viewed as a more dignified path than risking defeat in a gubernatorial race against emerging rivals he has previously dismissed.
Adding fuel to the intrigue, confidential sources indicate Orengo is unlikely to defend his seat in 2027. His strained relations within ODM, including recent public disagreements with party elder Oburu Oginga—who has signaled his own presidential ambitions if needed—further complicate any party-supported bid.

As Siaya’s political fault lines widen, residents are left wondering whether this Eldoret alignment will deliver accelerated development or mark the beginning of the end for Governor Orengo’s dominant influence in the county.
