Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has explained the absence of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki from the high-profile Kimalel Goat Auction in Baringo County, revealing that the DP was unwell.
Speaking during the annual cultural and economic event on Monday, December 22, Ruku told residents that he had been officially sent by the Deputy President to represent him and convey his message to the people of Baringo.
“I have been sent by the Deputy President, who is not feeling very well. He told me that when I arrive, I should convey his greetings to the people of Baringo, and he has also sent me with a lot of money to buy Christmas goats,” Ruku said.
The Cabinet Secretary assured attendees that despite his physical absence, Kindiki remains fully engaged and supportive of the region, dismissing speculation that had surrounded his failure to attend the event in person.
“Therefore, if you see that the Deputy President is not here, he has sent me and he is fully with you,” Ruku added.
The Kimalel Goat Auction, a major annual fixture in Baringo County that blends culture, commerce and politics, typically draws top national leaders and serves as a key platform for government outreach. Kindiki’s absence had raised eyebrows among locals and political observers, making Ruku’s clarification timely.
Ruku’s remarks appeared aimed at reassuring residents that the Deputy President’s temporary illness has not disrupted his commitment to the region, even as he prioritises his recovery.
