The Orange Democratic Movement party today moved to project unity, strength and strategic recalibration during a high-level aspirants convention held in Kisumu under the stewardship of National Chairperson Gladys Wanga.

In what appears to be a major political messaging shift ahead of the 2027 elections, Wanga announced that the party has formally dropped the “Linda Ground” slogan, saying the phrase had generated confusion after rival factions adopted competing versions of the tag.

“There is only one united ODM whose slogan remains Tuko Tayari as provided for in the party constitution,” she declared, signaling an attempt to consolidate the party after months of internal ideological contestation.

Wanga also used the meeting to rally support behind Oburu Oginga, praising the veteran politician for steering the party “with wisdom, sacrifice and steel” following the death of Raila Odinga.

The convention further revealed ODM’s growing openness to cooperation with United Democratic Alliance and President William Ruto. Wanga stated that ODM was ready to negotiate with UDA because the President had demonstrated willingness to work together “for the good of both parties.”

The remarks are likely to fuel debate within ODM ranks, especially among members wary of deepening ties with the ruling administration.

At the same time, Wanga emphasized that ODM’s survival and bargaining power would depend on winning numerical strength from the MCA level all the way to governors, arguing that political numbers directly translate into influence over national development priorities and resource allocation.

Attention now shifts to the upcoming Kisumu Wabiro rally, which Wanga described not as a routine political gathering but as a defining moment for the Luo community’s political and economic future.

“Kisumu Wabiro will be our day to make a statement. Wan Wan Wan!” she proclaimed to cheering aspirants and party delegates.
