High-ranking government officials today toured the bustling construction site of Dhogoye Bridge in West Yimbo Ward, Bondo Constituency, signaling accelerated progress on this vital infrastructure project linking Siaya and Busia counties.
The inspection team featured Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Hon. Davis Chirchir, Treasury CS Hon. John Mbadi, and local MPs. Located in Usenge where River Yala meets Lake Victoria, the bridge promises to revolutionize regional trade, mobility, and economic growth.
Alego-Usonga MP Hon. Samuel Atandi, who accompanied the delegation, praised the visit and underscored its political significance: “This morning, I accompanied the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Hon. Davis Chirchir; the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning, Hon. John Mbadi; and Hon. Gideon Ochanda, MP for Bondo, to Dhogoye Bridge in West Yimbo Ward, Bondo Constituency, for a construction inspection. This project is a clear demonstration of the strength and impact of the ODM–Broad-Based Government partnership, which has already disbursed 90% of the project funds, ensuring timely completion. Development is happening because leadership is working.”
Once plagued by delays and flooding risks that forced locals to use boats, Dhogoye Bridge has been a perennial campaign promise since the 1970s. President William Ruto flagged it off in 2023, but real momentum built in 2025 under Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA). By late 2025, the project hit 40% completion. Now, with near-full funding released, timely finishing looks assured.
This strategic crossing will slash travel times, boost cross-county trade, and unlock opportunities around Lake Victoria’s fisheries and agriculture hubs. Residents in Usenge and surrounding areas anticipate an end to isolation during rainy seasons.
The high-level visit highlights the broad-based government’s delivery focus in Nyanza, blending Kenya Kwanza and ODM efforts for tangible results. As construction races forward, Dhogoye Bridge emerges as a beacon of unified leadership driving Kenya’s infrastructure revolution.
