In a move that has stunned political circles, President William Ruto has nominated Canon Dr. Ida Betty Odinga, E.G.H., the widow of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, as Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The nomination, announced in a presidential press release issued on Friday evening, cites Mama Ida’s decades of advocacy in education, gender equity, social justice, and environmental causes as the perfect fit for the high-profile diplomatic role.
