In a stunning twist that has left residents of Siaya County reeling, a serving police officer has been unmasked as the mastermind behind a chilling wave of violent robberies.
Police Constable Mark Owino —also known as “Owis” in some circles—was dramatically arrested Saturday evening at around 7:40 pm at Holo Police Station. The takedown came after viral CCTV footage from a brazen February 4, 2026, robbery at Ajigo Trading Center in Bondo sub-county went viral, showing armed suspects harassing a helpless trader, looting his goods, and speeding off on a motorcycle in the dead of night.
Public outrage exploded as sharp-eyed netizens positively identified Owino from the clear footage, sparking intense investigations that traced the crimes straight back to one of their own.
The February 4 incident—reported at 3:40 am at Lwala Kotiende Police Station—was just the tip of the iceberg. Detectives now link Owino to multiple violent robberies terrorizing Bondo and surrounding areas over recent months, shattering any sense of security the uniform once provided.
Owino is currently locked up at Bondo Police Station, cooperating (or not) with probes that include an upcoming identification parade. The Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer in Bondo is leading the charge.
He faces arraignment, at Bondo Law Court on Monday tomorrow, where the full weight of the law could finally catch up to a man sworn to uphold it.
From protector to predator—the fall of Constable Mark Owino is a stark reminder that crime wears many disguises… sometimes even a badge.
