Residents in parts of Nairobi and Kisumu should brace for hours without electricity after announced scheduled outages on Sunday, February 15.

In a public notice issued Saturday, the national electricity distributor said the planned interruptions are necessary to facilitate routine maintenance works aimed at improving service reliability.

In Nairobi County, the power interruption will affect sections of Westlands between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Areas expected to experience the blackout include:

  • Suswa Road
  • Wangapala Road
  • Part of Mpaka Road
  • Ngao Road
  • Adjacent customers

Kenya Power noted that the temporary shutdown is part of ongoing network upgrades designed to stabilize supply in the busy commercial zone.

In Kisumu County, several neighborhoods will experience electricity cuts from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The planned outages come weeks after Kenya Power issued a customer advisory reaffirming that its technical teams operate 24 hours a day to respond to faults and conduct inspections.

The utility urged customers to grant its staff access to meters, cables, and other installations located within their premises whenever required.

“All our customers are advised to allow our staff access to electricity supply installations, meters and cables… at any time of the day or night,” the company stated.

Kenya Power typically advises customers in affected areas to:

  • Unplug sensitive electronics during the outage
  • Treat all power lines as live during maintenance

Electricity is expected to be restored once the scheduled works are completed.
