Majid Al Futtaim, exclusive operator of Carrefour in Kenya, has become the country’s first retailer to earn full NITA certification for its Retail Business School (RBS).
The National Industrial Training Authority accreditation allows the school to award nationally recognised qualifications in Meat Technology, Retail Food Management, Bakery & Pastry Technology, and Food Service Operations — setting a new standard for retail training.
“This NITA certification is a proud milestone that underscores our commitment to Kenya’s future,” said Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa, Majid Al Futtaim Retail.
“By becoming the first retailer to secure national accreditation, we’re equipping our 3,000+ colleagues with world-class skills and developing the next generation of retail leaders.”
Launched in 2024, the Retail Business School delivered over 44,700 training hours in 2025 alone, producing 500 certified professionals and 108 internal promotions. The new NITA status now gives every graduate a portable, nationally recognised qualification.
Theresa Wasike, Acting Director General of NITA, welcomed the move:
“This accreditation shows how private-sector innovation can align with national standards to close skills gaps, boost youth employment and strengthen Kenya’s competitiveness.”
Majid Al Futtaim also runs an 18-month Retail Graduate Programme with local universities and leadership training with Harvard Business School.
Kenya’s retail sector just got a major skills upgrade — and Carrefour colleagues are leading the way.
