NYAHURURU, LAIKIPIA COUNTY — Siaya County teams are delivering a commanding statement at the ongoing 11th Kenya Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) Games, with electrifying performances across football, basketball, volleyball and handball underscoring the county’s growing sporting pedigree.

From the roaring terraces of Ndurumo Grounds to the fast-paced courts of Ndorumo School, Siaya’s athletes have combined grit, skill and tactical discipline to outclass rivals and emerge as early title contenders.

Siaya’s women’s football team lit up the tournament with a dominant display against Meru, sealing a resounding victory that showcased their attacking depth and composure under pressure. Midfield maestros Lucy Okech and Risper Rachael led the charge with four and two goals respectively, while Sekina’s audacious seventh strike caught the goalkeeper off guard, sealing a memorable win.

The duo once again proved decisive in a high-stakes clash against hosts Laikipia, netting twice to rescue the team in a pulsating encounter played under Nyahururu’s biting cold.

Roared on by a capacity crowd, the Siaya Queens turned the tide in the second half, pinning Laikipia deep in their half with relentless pressure and fluid attacking play.

Team captain Owino Lavin stood tall at the back, delivering crunching tackles and organizing the defence with authority.

“We panicked after conceding early because we knew they were tough,” Lavin admitted. “But through coordination, energy and belief, we overcame and proved they are beatable.”

Siaya’s men’s handball team stamped their authority with a clinical 26-15 demolition of Makueni, overcoming early nerves to dominate the second half.

Captain Lawrence Juma revealed the turning point came after regrouping at halftime.

“There was tension early on, but we took control and never looked back. We are confident heading into our next matches,” he said.

Remarkably, Siaya secured the win with only eight players against Makueni’s fourteen — a testament to their resilience and tactical discipline.

Head coach Robert Orido praised the squad’s determination and credited the county government for its support.

“This victory reflects preparation and belief. With more exposure, this team can go even further,” he noted.

On the basketball court, Siaya’s women delivered a ruthless performance, crushing Nakuru 38-16 in a game defined by precision passing and defensive solidity.

Despite a brief dip in the second quarter, they surged back with authority to reassert dominance and dismantle their opponents.

In men’s action, Siaya’s 3×3 team overwhelmed West Pokot 21-8 in a tense but controlled contest, while the 5×5 side brushed aside Laikipia 83-57 in a high-scoring showdown.

Captain Ian Oduor credited disciplined training for the success.

“The game was tough, but our preparation paid off. We are focused on the next match,” he said.

Siaya’s volleyball team also joined the medal charge, displaying cohesion, precision and attacking brilliance to overpower their opponents. Star player Rehema Akinyi stood out with powerful spikes and match-winning contributions that anchored the team’s dominance.

Sports Director Sanmac Okoth lauded the teams’ performances, describing them as a powerful response to critics and a symbol of Siaya’s sporting resurgence.

“Our teams have silenced doubters and lifted the county’s spirit. When Siaya plays with courage and determination, nothing is impossible,” he said, flanked by Deputy Director John Ang’awa.

With crucial fixtures ahead against Laikipia and Makueni, Siaya’s teams remain firmly on course for glory — their eyes set on lifting multiple titles and cementing their status as a powerhouse at KYISA 2026.
