Siaya County’s political and administrative landscape edged closer to a significant shake-up after Governor James Orengo’s nominees for critical county positions underwent rigorous vetting before the County Assembly’s Select Committee on Appointments.
The high-stakes session, chaired by Speaker George Okode, scrutinized candidates earmarked for the Siaya County Public Service Board and the influential office of County Attorney—positions central to governance, legal oversight, and public sector efficiency.
The exercise, anchored in Article 179(2)(b) of the Constitution of Kenya (2010), Section 58A of the County Governments Act (2012), and the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act (2017), underscores the growing emphasis on transparency and accountability in county appointments.
A diverse slate of nominees appeared before the committee, each seeking to secure a role in shaping Siaya’s administrative engine:

For the pivotal legal advisory role, Emma Velma Maumo faced the panel as the nominee for County Attorney.
