The body of a teenage girl was discovered dead at the Nyamninia KBC compound in Yala, Siaya County on Tuesday morning.
The body was identified as belonging to a seventeen-year-old Form Three student in the neighborhood.
Children going to school who first discovered the body said it had partial clothing, suggesting violence or a struggle before succumbing to death.
The police have verified that the deceased left home at dawn around 5:30 AM for school but shortly afterwards turned up dead in the bush with her underclothing missing. Preliminary investigations indicate the girl was raped before her assailants took her life.

The incident occured barely 300 meters from the deceased’s home.
Charles Wafula, Gem sub-County Police Commander confirmed that his officers processed the scene before removing the body to Yala sub-County Hospital morgue. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Barely a fortnight ago a similar incident occured at Midhine in Sagam area of the the same sub-County when a Form Four girl heading to school at dawn was also found vandalized before being murdered.
The two incidences have now raised concern among residents whether it’s ethical to require schoolchildren in the rural areas to report to school during wee hours of dawn.
