The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) technical team made up of Chairperson Ahmed Issack Hassan this morning conducted a fact-finding mission at the Central Police Station in Nairobi CBD with an aim of ascertaining the cause of death of Albert Omondi Ojwang.
The youthful Ojwang died in police custody hours after being arrested on Saturday.
A statement issued by IPOA at the Central Police Station a while ago has shown that the agency has dispatched a team to the City Mortuary where a postmortem is scheduled today.
The death of the social media commentator has raised a lot of ire among Kenyans with some calling for the resignation of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Langat whom Albert Omondi is said to have attacked in a Facebook post.
A video footage going viral on social media indicated that the IPOA briefing at Central Police Station was attended by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and his two deputies Gilbert Masengeli and Eliud Langat.
Shortly thereafter IPOA posted on its X handle that:
“As part of investigations into the death of Albert Ojwang who died hours after arrest, an IPOA technical team led by Chairperson Ahmed Issack Hassan and Commissioner Dr. Micah Onyiego, is this morning conducting a fact-finding mission at Central Police Station. IPOA has further dispatched a Rapid Response Team to the City Mortuary, where Ojwang’s post-mortem is scheduled.

Somehow the quick response by IPOA has raised hopes among Kenyans that it is not a question of PR but accountability will be upheld and the culprits of this heinous act brought to book.
