President William Ruto has announced a lucrative incentive package for Harambee Stars players as they prepare for a crucial African Nations Championship (CHAN) group-stage clash against Zambia.

Speaking after hosting the national team at State House on Monday, August 11, Ruto congratulated the players for their historic qualification to the tournament’s knockout stages following their 1–0 victory over Morocco at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday. Ryan Ogam’s lone strike in the 67th minute sealed the win, sparking nationwide celebrations.

“The Harambee Stars are proof of what unity can achieve,” Ruto said. “They have brought the country together, and we are all witnessing the success it brings. We stand behind you, praying that this time we win CHAN because it’s within close reach.”

Under the President’s new reward plan:

  • A win against Zambia in the final Group A match this Sunday will earn each player KES 2.5 million.
  • Progression past the quarter-finals will see each player receive KES 1 million plus a two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice.

The package is in addition to Ruto’s earlier promise of KES 1 million for every CHAN match win and KES 500,000 for every draw.

Ruto praised the team’s resilience and urged them to maintain their focus, stressing that their performances have reignited national pride.

Kenya faces Zambia in a high-stakes encounter that will determine their seeding in the knockout phase. Victory would not only secure bragging rights but also unlock a multi-million shilling windfall and the promise of home ownership for each squad member.
