President William Ruto has proclaimed August 27 as Katiba Day to mark the anniversary of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 25, Ruto said the day will commemorate the promulgation of the constitution, which ushered in a new era of governance, devolution, and protection of fundamental rights.
“August 27, 2025, marks the fifteenth anniversary of the 2010 Constitution. It is befitting for the people of Kenya to commemorate this day as a reminder of our collective duty to obey, preserve, protect, and implement the Constitution,” read part of the presidential proclamation.
Ruto emphasized that Katiba Day will be a working day and directed all arms of government, county administrations, and schools to organize civic activities aimed at promoting constitutional awareness and dialogue on governance and the rule of law.
The Head of State noted that Katiba Day will be observed across the country and at Kenyan diplomatic missions abroad.
The 2010 Constitution was promulgated on August 27, 2010, under the late President Mwai Kibaki after being approved by Parliament.
