ADVERTIn a dramatic twist that underscores deepening concerns over integrity within law enforcement, a police officer attached to the National Police Service has been arrested after colleagues uncovered approximately 20 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa during a targeted raid in Dagoretti, Nairobi.
The suspect, whose identity remains withheld pending formal charges, was apprehended by officers from Muthangari Police Station following a tip-off from members of the public—once again highlighting the critical role of citizen intelligence in combating crime.
According to an official statement from the National Police Service, detectives stormed the officer’s residence and recovered two bags containing six tightly wrapped bales of the suspected narcotic, sealed in yellow tape—an indication of organized packaging often associated with distribution networks.
“Acting on credible information, officers raided the suspect’s residence and recovered the contraband, which has since been secured as exhibit,” the statement read.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspect was acting alone or part of a wider drug trafficking syndicate operating within the capital.
In a firm message, the National Police Service reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on criminal conduct within its ranks, emphasizing that the law applies equally to all—regardless of uniform or status.
“Any individual found engaging in illegal activities will face the full force of the law without fear or favour,” the agency stated.

The Dagoretti incident comes just weeks after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission arrested three traffic officers in Webuye over allegations of extorting bribes from motorists along the Webuye–Kitale highway.
The officers—identified as Corporal Kipyego Metto, Police Constable Ben Kiptoo Maswai, and Police Constable Alex Kidui Makee—were nabbed following a covert surveillance operation prompted by repeated complaints from the public.
Investigators revealed that the officers had allegedly turned a routine roadblock into a cash collection point, soliciting bribes from public service and commercial vehicle operators instead of enforcing traffic laws.
Security analysts warn that such incidents risk eroding public confidence in law enforcement agencies, even as authorities intensify efforts to clean up the system.
However, the swift action in the Dagoretti raid may serve as a signal that internal accountability structures—though tested—are still functioning.
