LAGOS — In a high-profile African send-off to 2025, His Excellency President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, where he is poised to headline one of the continent’s most inspiring events — the Future Africa Leaders Awards.
The retired Kenyan president touched down in Nigeria’s bustling megacity on December 31, marking a symbolic start to a celebration focused on Africa’s rising generation of innovators, educators, and changemakers. Accompanying him is former Vice President H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, who joins the awards ceremony as a distinguished guest in recognition of his leadership and recent international accolades.
The Future Africa Leaders Awards — an initiative spotlighting young Africans who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in education, youth empowerment, and mentorship — will be electrified by Kenyatta’s keynote address later tonight. He is also slated to announce the recipient of the prestigious Star Prize, the top honor of the ceremony that highlights transformational impact on society.
This prestigious event, organised by the Future Africa Leaders Foundation, has become a New Year’s Eve tradition with winners converging in Lagos to receive recognition for impactful community work and visionary leadership across the continent. Each honoree receives grants to accelerate their initiatives, with the Star Prize winner set apart for outstanding contribution.

Held at the Loveworld Nation Arena, the ceremony brings together a vibrant mix of political leaders, innovators, and youth champions from across Africa. It underscores a shared commitment to nurturing the continent’s brightest minds as architects of tomorrow’s Africa.
For Kenyatta — who has increasingly engaged with youth leadership and empowerment initiatives since leaving office — this platform amplifies his ongoing message of continental renewal and opportunity for young Africans.
Meanwhile, Kalonzo’s presence cements his profile on the pan-African stage, complementing his domestic focus and recent international recognitions for political leadership and public service.
The awards gala promises powerful speeches, inspiring success stories, and the unveiling of Africa’s next generation of trailblazers. Tune in for the Star Prize reveal — a moment expected to spotlight brilliant minds shaping Africa’s future!
