Kenya’s war on narcotics has intensified, with a fresh wave of intelligence-led operations netting suspected traffickers and seizing significant quantities of cannabis sativa across multiple counties.

In Nakuru, what appeared to be a routine patrol quickly turned into a major bust when officers apprehended 32-year-old Felix Mittunda Genchabe. Attempting to blend into the crowd, the suspect drew the attention of vigilant officers whose swift search uncovered cannabis sativa discreetly concealed in his backpack—allegedly destined for street distribution. Authorities believe the arrest disrupted a budding supply chain before it could expand further.

Meanwhile, in Bumula, Bungoma County, a tip-off from members of the public led to the interception of a speeding motorcycle carrying two suspects. Josphat Ochieng and Yusuf Keya were found transporting four bales of bhang, pointing to a coordinated trafficking effort. The duo was immediately taken into custody as police moved to dismantle the suspected network behind the shipment.

In a separate but equally decisive operation in Kaptalamwa, Elgeyo Marakwet County, officers cornered 30-year-old Isaac Kibet Odipo. He was found in possession of 172 rolls of bhang, further highlighting the scale and reach of illicit drug trade routes penetrating rural areas.

All suspects are currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of their court appearances. The recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits, forming critical evidence in the impending prosecutions.

The coordinated operations underscore the National Police Service’s renewed commitment to dismantling narcotics networks and safeguarding communities from the devastating impact of drug abuse and trafficking.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the crackdown by sharing information anonymously. Citizens can report suspicious activities via the toll-free hotline 0800 722 203 or through WhatsApp at 0709 570 000.

As the campaign gains momentum, law enforcement agencies are sending a clear message: the net is tightening, and traffickers have nowhere left to hide.
