Siaya Governor James Orengo has commissioned the ultra-modern Tingare Health Centre Maternity Theatre, ushering in a new chapter in the county’s drive to improve access to quality healthcare and safeguard maternal and newborn lives.
The facility, located in Sigomere Ward within Ugunja Constituency, is a significant addition to the region’s health infrastructure, designed to bring critical maternity services closer to the people. For years, expectant mothers in the area have faced long, often dangerous journeys in search of emergency obstetric care—a challenge the new centre now decisively addresses.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Governor Orengo highlighted the life-saving impact of the project, framing it as a turning point for maternal healthcare in the region.
“With the opening of the Tingare Health Centre Maternity Theatre, the days of long, risky journeys for expectant mothers are finally over,” he said.
He emphasized that the facility is more than just a physical structure, describing it as a symbol of dignity, hope, and a renewed commitment to community well-being.
“Our community is celebrating a new era where every mother delivers in a dignified, ultra-modern facility and every child gets a healthy start. We aren’t just opening doors, we are saving lives and securing the future of our constituency. This is the quality healthcare our families deserve in line with our Nyalore Manifesto,” Orengo added.
The maternity theatre is equipped to handle complex deliveries, including surgical procedures such as Caesarean sections, significantly reducing the risks associated with delayed medical intervention. It is expected to serve thousands of residents across Ugunja and neighboring areas, offering comprehensive maternal and child health services from antenatal care to postnatal support.
Health officials and local leaders have welcomed the development as a game-changer, noting that improved access to well-equipped facilities is key to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, particularly in rural settings.
The launch of the Tingare facility aligns with the county government’s broader vision under the Nyalore Manifesto, which prioritizes accessible, high-quality public services. By decentralizing essential healthcare, the administration aims to ease the burden on referral hospitals while ensuring that no mother or child is left behind.
As residents celebrated the milestone, the Tingare Health Centre stood as a powerful testament to a shifting healthcare landscape—one where quality, proximity, and dignity in care are no longer aspirations, but a lived reality.
