A cloud of mystery surrounds the death of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier whose body was discovered inside her locked house in Juja, Kiambu County, in an incident that has triggered a joint security investigation.

The deceased, 44-year-old Elizabeth Wanjiru, was attached to the Department of Defence headquarters. Concerned relatives reportedly broke into her residence after repeated attempts to reach her went unanswered, raising alarm over her sudden silence.

Upon entry, they found her lifeless body lying on a sofa in a pool of blood. Visible marks on her face suggested possible electrocution, further deepening the puzzle around the circumstances of her death. Notably, the door had been locked from the inside, complicating early theories and leaving investigators with more questions than answers.

Police officers, working alongside military personnel, have since launched a comprehensive probe to establish the exact cause of death. Authorities say all possibilities remain open, including accidental death, suicide, or foul play, pending forensic analysis.

The body has been moved to the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital Mashujaa Funeral Home, where a postmortem examination is expected to provide critical insights into the cause and timing of death.

The incident has sparked concern and renewed focus on unexplained deaths involving security personnel, with calls for a thorough, transparent investigation. As detectives work to reconstruct Wanjiru’s final moments, her family and colleagues are left grappling with grief and unanswered questions.
