President William Ruto has officially bid farewell to outgoing National Security Advisor Monica Juma, praising her distinguished career in public service as she transitions to senior leadership roles at the United Nations.

Speaking at State House Nairobi, the President lauded Ambassador Juma as a “highly respected professional and intellectual,” noting her vast expertise in security, diplomacy, and public administration. Her tenure, he said, was marked by discipline, strategic clarity, and a results-driven approach to complex national and international challenges.

“Through her service, she distinguished herself as a skilled negotiator and an exceptional public servant whose contributions have strengthened Kenya’s security architecture and global diplomatic standing,” President Ruto said.

Juma, who has served in multiple high-profile roles including Cabinet Secretary for Defence and Foreign Affairs, now takes up prestigious international assignments as Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna. Her appointment places her at the helm of global efforts to combat transnational crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism.

President Ruto expressed confidence in her ability to excel on the global stage, citing her leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to service. “Her experience and vision will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to international peace, security, and governance,” he added.

The farewell ceremony underscored Juma’s legacy as one of Kenya’s most accomplished diplomats, whose influence has extended far beyond national borders. Her transition to the United Nations marks a significant milestone not only in her career but also for Kenya’s representation in global governance.

As she exits her role at the heart of Kenya’s national security framework, Ambassador Juma leaves behind a reputation for professionalism, resilience, and impactful leadership—qualities that are expected to define her tenure in the international arena.
