Police in Siaya County are investigating a suspected double murder after a man identified as Dennis Okoth was arrested over the alleged killings of his wife and his employer in separate incidents.

The suspect is accused of killing his wife, Brenda Okoth, following a domestic dispute in September 2025 and burying her remains inside a house in Alego Ndere, Siaya County, before fleeing to neighbouring Ugenya Sub-County.

According to Ugenya Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer Benson Musyoka, the suspect later secured domestic employment in Urenga Village, Ugenya, where he allegedly killed his employer, Eunice Atieno, on September 3, 2026, following a disagreement.

Investigators say Atieno’s body was also buried inside a house designated for domestic workers, adding a disturbing dimension to the two separate cases.

The allegations have triggered investigations across Siaya County as detectives seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and gather evidence for possible prosecution.

Suspect Arrested After Fleeing to Kakamega

Following the alleged killing of his employer, Okoth reportedly fled to Kakamega with his two-year-old son.

Police subsequently arrested him in an operation and took him to Ukwala Police Station for questioning.

According to Musyoka, the suspect initially confessed to killing Atieno. Three days later, detectives questioned him about the whereabouts of his wife, leading to a second alleged confession that prompted investigators in Ugenya to alert their counterparts in Siaya.

The information led homicide detectives to the family home in Ndere, where they discovered what appeared to be a grave inside a bedroom.

Police obtained a court order authorising the exhumation of Brenda’s remains. The body was subsequently transferred to Siaya County Referral Morgue for a postmortem examination to help establish the circumstances of her death.

The findings of the postmortem and further forensic investigations are expected to form part of the evidence in the ongoing inquiry.

Ukwala Court Grants Police 14 Days

The Ukwala Law Courts have granted investigators 14 days to complete their inquiries as the suspect remains in police custody.

The additional time is expected to allow detectives to gather forensic evidence, record witness statements and establish the sequence of events surrounding the two alleged killings.

Investigators will also be required to assemble evidence capable of supporting any charges that may be brought against the suspect.

Although police have reported the suspect’s alleged confessions, the allegations remain subject to the legal process. The suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.

Brenda’s Family Seeks Justice and Burial Support

Meanwhile, the families of the two women are appealing to investigators to expedite the investigations and ensure that those responsible are held accountable through the judicial process.

Brenda’s family, which comes from Bungoma County, has endured a prolonged search for her following her disappearance, which relatives say they reported to Ugunja Police Station last year.

The discovery of her remains has brought a painful chapter to the family, which is now seeking financial assistance to transport her body to Bungoma for burial in accordance with Luhya cultural traditions.

The family hopes to give Brenda a dignified send-off after months of uncertainty over her whereabouts.

Their appeal also highlights the emotional and financial burden that families can face when dealing with prolonged disappearances and the recovery of loved ones’ remains.

Investigations Continue as Families Demand Answers

The two cases have raised urgent questions about the circumstances of the alleged killings, the events leading to the discovery of the bodies and the evidence investigators will present to the courts.

Detectives are continuing their investigations as the families await answers and prepare to lay their loved ones to rest.

For now, the focus remains on establishing the facts, completing the forensic examinations and ensuring that the investigations proceed in accordance with the law.
