The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party on Monday expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba on allegations of disloyalty and violation of party ideals.
Orwoba who on April 17, 2025 appeared at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to receive former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on his return to the country and later participated in his homecoming ceremony at Gusii Stadium on May 2, has been seen to be supportive of another presidential candidate other than her party leader.
Orwoba has gone to the media to explain her presence during the two functions yet the UDA Party disciplinary committee resolved to get rid of her after “lengthy deliberations”.
Secretary General Hassan Omar said her actions could be interpreted as disloyalty and she no longer deserved to be a nominee legislator of the party.
The decision to expel Orwoba was ratified by UDAs National Executive Committee meeting held on 19 May, 2025. Hassan said the decision was not too harsh as it was in line with Article 29 of the UDA Party Constitution.
“Senator Gloria Orwoba ceases to be a member of the UDA Party. Consequently, she no longer enjoys any privileges accorded to party members, nor is she authorized to represent or act on behalf of the party in any capacity,” Mr. Hassan conclusively said.
He further explained that the party had written to the Speaker of Senate to request her removal and also proposed Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi who hails from Kimilili in Bungoma County to replace her.
Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi.
“The party has notified the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of her expulsion,” he elaborated.
“In accordance with the party’s nomination rules and based on the party list submitted to the IEBC prior to the 2022 General Election, the party has nominated Mrs. Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi to take over her docket with immediate effect.
