National Prayer Breakfast Moved Forward to 28 May at Safari Park Hotel

The date of the National Prayer Breakfast has been moved ahead to Wednesday 28 May, 2025.

Traditionally the Prayer Breakfast has been held on the last Thursday of the month of May each year.

Just like last year’s event this year’s Prayer Breakfast will be marked at the Safari Park Hotel.

The Speaker of the National Assembly formally announced the commemoration of the event in a communique issued on April 30.

The theme this year is ‘Rise and Rebuild’, a timely call for national unity across Kenya’s political, economic, and social spheres.

Picking from the American tradition the prayer breakfast is a solemn inter-denominational gathering that reaffirms the State’s sworn allegiance to divinity. It also provides opportunity for leaders drawn from diverse backgrounds to pray together, reflect and rededicate the nation to it’s sworn ideals.

The Chief Guest is the Head of State, President Dr. William Samoei Ruto. Top dignitaries from friendly countries are also invited.

Usually the event is preceded by a women’s convention a day earlier and this year’s pre-event has also been moved to Tuesday (tomorrow).

Although Kenya is a Liberal Christian country three days ago a video emerged online of the predominantly emigrant Somalis at Eastleigh Nairobi violently beating up a foreigner and two brothers because they were preaching the Christian faith door-to-door. The authorities would not comment over the incident as Somalis are entrenched in the security apparatus of the country.

Speaker Moses Masika Wetangula has said the theme for this year is apt as it reflects the unified national aspirations

“It is an opportunity for national reflection and unity at a time when our country seeks renewal across key sectors,” said Wetang’ula.

The focus of the Women Convention tomorrow will be fostering leadership, inclusion, and empowerment among female lawmakers.

“All women Members of Parliament are encouraged to attend this important session,” Wetang’ula declared in the communication.

“The National Prayer Breakfast is more than a tradition; it is a testament to the enduring values that hold our nation together,” the communique ended.

Kenya celebrated the first National Prayer Breakfast under President Emilio Mwai Kibaki in 2002.

The 2024 National Prayer Breakfast took place on May 30, at the Safari Park Hotel, under the theme ‘Hope’.

The event is organized by the interfaith Bunge Fellowship Caucus.
