ODM Party has called for an urgent meeting to address the current political situation in the country.
The meeting follows remarks by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who criticized President William Ruto’s pact with the party.
However, Makadara MP George Aladwa, speaking to NTV, dismissed Sifuna’s remarks, distancing the party from his sentiments.
Aladwa stated that Sifuna’s remarks do not reflect the official position of the party and assured President Ruto that ODM will continue to support him.
Several ODM leaders are currently holed up in a meeting at a hotel in Nairobi and are expected to issue a statement later today
Sifuna has publicly declared that he will resign as the SG should the party formally decide to support President William Ruto’s reelection bid.
“If the party decides to go ahead with the merger in 2027, then I will have no option but to resign as the SG,” he said.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has slammed Sifuna over his declaration that the Memorandum of Understanding between ODM and the ruling UDA party is no longer valid.
Cherargei accused the ODM Secretary General of misleading the public.He maintained that the alliance is functioning effectively.
Sifuna, on the other hand, argued that the Kenya Kwanza administration has failed to uphold the Constitution, as emphasized in its preamble.
Cherargei reiterated that Sifuna was giving Kenyans false information and insisted the partnership remains strong.
Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda has also lashed out at Sifuna, demanding his resignation or expulsion from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for what he termed as betrayal and political dishonesty.
