The Rongo Magistrate’s Court has granted an application by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to exhume the body of a GSU officer who was buried under mysterious circumstances within a church compound in Migori County.
According to the ODPP, Police Constable Adan Ayoo died on March 27, 2025, and was buried the following day inside the compound of St. Joseph’s Missions of Messiah in Africa Church, Rongo Sub-County, without the consent of his family or employer.
Four church directors — Michael Kus Onyango, Luka Ochieng, Everline Gemamo, and Lilian Atieno Olal — are out on bond as investigations into the officer’s suspected murder continue.
In a separate ruling, the court directed Ayoo’s wife to identify the exact burial site within the church grounds. The exhumation will be carried out by the County Public Health Officer, with security provided by the OCS Kamagambo Police Station.

Upon exhumation, Ayoo’s remains will be reinterred at his family home in Kochieng, Nyando Sub-County, Kisumu County, in accordance with Luo customary law. The matter will be mentioned on August 26, 2025, for further directions.
