NAIROBI, August 15, 2025 – President William Ruto has announced a fresh wave of appointments and redeployments in Kenya’s foreign service, in a move billed as a strategic realignment to strengthen the country’s diplomatic footprint and advance the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) on the global stage.
In a statement issued Friday afternoon, State House said the appointments target “optimizing performance and enhancing service delivery” by positioning experienced diplomats, career technocrats, and a number of political allies in key postings.
“In an Executive Action carried out today, the President has realigned the nation’s Foreign Service to optimize performance and enhance service delivery, as outlined in the Administration’s Manifesto under BETA,” read the statement.
Who Goes Where
The shake-up sees a mix of new faces and familiar names heading to strategic capitals:
Galma Mukhe Boru – High Commissioner to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a crucial posting given Ethiopia’s role as the African Union’s headquarters.
Anthony Mwanki Muchiri – Ambassador to Ankara, Turkey, a growing trade partner in infrastructure and defence cooperation.
Lucy Kiruthu – Ambassador to Bangkok, Thailand, strengthening Kenya’s push for Asian market access.
Henry Wambuma – Ambassador to Bujumbura, Burundi, at the heart of East African Community (EAC) politics.
Catherine Khumba Karemu – Ambassador to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, a vital EAC economic partner.
