A police officer was found dead Thursday morning at Turbi Police Roadblock along the Marsabit–Moyale highway in what investigators suspect was suicide.
According to witnesses, the officer reported for duty around 6:00 a.m. in high spirits and even exchanged greetings with colleagues before stepping briefly to Turbi Police Station, barely 50 meters away.
Moments later, gunshots rang out. Officers on duty rushed to the scene and discovered their colleague sprawled in a pool of blood, his service rifle lying beside him. Four spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) cordoned off the area and commenced investigations. Initial findings indicate the fatal bullet entered through the chin and exited through the head, with four bullet holes visible on a nearby toilet roof.
The officer’s body was moved to Marsabit Mortuary pending a post-mortem. Authorities are probing the motive behind the incident.
Colleagues described the officer as disciplined and hardworking, making his sudden death difficult to comprehend.
