The National Assembly has dismissed as fake a viral document circulating online that claimed four prominent politicians had been nominated as Cabinet Secretaries in President William Ruto’s government.
The forged letter, which bore a counterfeit parliamentary stamp and a falsified signature allegedly belonging to the Clerk of the National Assembly, suggested that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had been asked to conduct background checks on the purported nominees.
The individuals named in the bogus document included Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda, and KANU Chairman Gideon Moi. It further claimed that their vetting would be concluded by November 6 to pave the way for formal appointments.
In a swift rebuttal, the Clerk of the National Assembly categorically denied the authenticity of the document, terming it false and misleading.

“This document is not from the National Assembly or Parliament of Kenya. It is fake. Kindly disregard it,” the Clerk clarified in a public statement.
Under Kenya’s Constitution, Parliament is responsible for vetting Cabinet nominees before their approval — a process that involves integrity checks by agencies such as the EACC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). However, no such request has been made regarding the individuals mentioned in the fake letter.
The emergence of the document comes amid renewed political realignments within the so-called broad-based government, following the death of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Just days earlier, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna read a statement on behalf of ODM leadership reaffirming the party’s commitment to continue working with President Ruto’s administration.
“We reiterate the party’s commitment to the broad-based government until 2027, guided by the 10-point agenda for peace and stability,” Sifuna stated.
Also featured in the fake list, Gideon Moi had recently hosted President Ruto at his Kabarak home, where he publicly declared KANU’s cooperation with the government.
“We’ve elected to pursue the path of unity and shared purpose at this crucial point in our nation,” Moi said during the meeting.
President Ruto later confirmed the collaboration, noting,
“Glad that KANU, under the leadership of Chairman Gideon Moi, will work with us to address the challenges facing our country.”
The coinciding developments have fuelled speculation about a looming Cabinet reshuffle aimed at accommodating new political allies. However, with Parliament disowning the viral letter, it remains clear that — at least for now — no official Cabinet nominations involving the four leaders have been made.
