The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has delivered a hammer blow to corruption, arresting five traffic police officers caught red-handed accepting bribes on the Kisumu-Busia highway. The officers, stationed near Busia town, stand accused of rampant extortion from motorists.
The sting operation, launched following a wave of public complaints, exposed a brazen bribery scheme. Motorists reported being systematically shaken down at a roadblock, with officers allegedly demanding cash without even checking vehicles or enforcing traffic laws.
Those facing charges are Corporal Hezron Aburi, Corporal Mary Nabei, Police Constable James Weru, Police Constable Mwakwekwe Nyoka, and Police Constable Aisha Abdullahi. They were arrested at the scene and are now in custody, undergoing questioning at the EACC Western Regional Office in Bungoma.
“We are committed to eradicating corruption across all public service delivery points,” declared an EACC spokesperson. “This operation is part of our ongoing crackdown to ensure fair access to services for all Kenyans.” The commission confirmed they are intensifying investigations and surveillance, targeting areas known for bribery.
