Ochouga’s Last-Gasp Heroics Fire Gor Mahia to Stunning Comeback Win Over Bidco United

Paul Ochouga struck deep into stoppage time to crown a dramatic comeback as Gor Mahia edged Bidco United 2-1 in a thrilling SportPesa League Round 18 clash at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday, January 24.

In a contest packed with intensity and late drama, K’Ogalo once again showed their championship pedigree, snatching all three points at the death to tighten their grip at the top of the table.

Bidco United drew first blood midway through the opening half when Brian Mboya rose highest to head home a pinpoint cross from Thomas Wainaina, catching Gor Mahia’s defence flat-footed and sending the home fans into celebration.

Earlier, Gor Mahia had threatened through Jackson Dwang, whose effort narrowly missed the target, while Bidco responded with a dangerous delivery from Mboya that drifted inches wide. Despite Gor’s pressure, Bidco’s disciplined backline held firm to take a deserved 1-0 lead into the break.

The second half saw Gor Mahia raise the tempo. Head coach Charles Akonnor shuffled his pack, introducing Frank Odhiambo and new signing Ebenezer Assifuah in search of inspiration. The changes paid off just after the hour mark.

Assifuah, making an immediate impact from the bench, latched onto a fine delivery from Ebenezer Aduk-waw, twisted sharply inside the area and coolly slotted the ball home to restore parity and swing momentum in Gor Mahia’s favour.

With confidence surging, Gor Mahia dominated the closing stages, piling pressure on a Bidco side increasingly content to defend and protect a point. As the clock ticked through nine minutes of added time, the match appeared destined for a draw.

But football had one final twist.

Deep into stoppage time, Bidco conceded a free kick on the right flank. Enock Morrisson curled in a dangerous ball, a defensive deflection fell kindly to Paul Ochouga, and the midfielder kept his composure to guide the ball into the net, sparking wild celebrations among the Gor Mahia faithful.

Despite Alpha Onyango seeing red late on, Gor Mahia held firm to seal a memorable victory that lifts them to 36 points at the summit of the SportPesa League table, three clear of rivals AFC Leopards.

For Bidco United, a costly lapse in concentration proved decisive. For Gor Mahia, it was yet another statement of intent — a champion’s comeback sealed by Ochouga’s ice-cold finish when it mattered most.
