Governor Johnson Sakaja, popularly known as Mbekse, took a bold gamble by hiring and integrating members of the Green Army into Nairobi’s sports structure — and the results are now paying off spectacularly.
In one of the most intense clashes of the tournament, Nairobi’s women’s handball team pulled off a narrow but heroic 13–12 victory over Kisumu in a fierce, adrenaline-fueled duel. The win sends the Mbekse ladies into a high-stakes final against Vihiga, with confidence soaring and the coveted trophy firmly within reach.
If the women were brilliant, the men were devastating.
The Nairobi men’s handball team unleashed a brutal 30–12 demolition of Vihiga, combining strength, precision, and perfectly executed set pieces. The trio of Jefferson Mugendi, Robin Mosomi, and sharpshooter Christian Oduor orchestrated flawless pick-and-drop sequences, with Oduor finishing every attack with clinical accuracy.
Goalkeeper Stephen Waweru stood tall between the posts, shutting down Vihiga’s attempts and steering Nairobi into the finals in emphatic fashion.
