Siaya County has taken a bold step toward a cleaner, climate-smart future after a high-powered delegation met on Monday, December 8, 2025, to lay the groundwork for a viable green economy agenda.
Paying a call to Mr. Jared Abayo (Director of Public Participation & Civic Engagement, Siaya County),were Bishop Dr. Maurice Abiero Awuora, Rev. Dr. Malack Oloo, and Dr. Oremo of Acacia Development Group who held a strategic discussion at the county headquarters—described by insiders as “fruitful, focused, and future-defining.”
During the meeting, the team unanimously agreed to establish a formal and structured engagement framework between the County Government of Siaya and Acacia Development Group, a registered community-based organization pushing for climate-friendly development.
Key resolutions included:
Convene an inception meeting bringing together all relevant county government departments to synchronize strategies on green economic initiatives.
Fast-track the petition already submitted to the Siaya County Assembly seeking amendments to key laws.
Review and update legislation, specifically the
Siaya County Village Administrative Act, 2020, and
Siaya County Climate Change Act, No. 3 of 2021,
to align them with modern climate governance needs.
Identify and onboard additional partners, institutions, and grassroots stakeholders to form the backbone of the proposed Siaya County Green Investment Authority—a body envisioned to coordinate, attract, and manage green financing for county development.
The leaders emphasized that the creation of a Green Investment Authority is not just an administrative ambition—it is a strategic move to unlock millions in local and international climate funds, accelerate clean energy projects, support community-driven climate solutions, and ignite sustainable economic growth.
“We are committed to unlocking green funds for sustainable development,” the team affirmed, marking a major shift in Siaya’s climate and investment posture.
If successful, Siaya could become the first county in Kenya with a dedicated Green Investment Authority—positioning itself as a national model for climate-smart governance, green entrepreneurship, and community-driven sustainability.
From renewable energy to climate-resilient agriculture and eco-innovation hubs, the county’s new agenda signals a transformative era where policy, people, and partnerships converge to power a greener economy.
