ADVERTToday, we celebrate Elizabeth Ochogo, one of those remarkable members of the Siaya County Government family who have demonstrated that determination, commitment and a willingness to learn can carve out a place even where formal training may not have provided the easiest entry.
Liz has, through sheer determination and on-the-job learning, established herself as one of the finest reporters within the Directorate of Public Communication. Armed with her ever-present Nikon camera, she has mastered the art of being where the action is — documenting departmental activities, telling stories and ensuring that the work of the County Government is captured for posterity.
Of course, Liz and her Nikon have their own complicated relationship with lighting and focus. Sometimes the camera appears to have a mind of its own! But that has never diminished her enthusiasm or commitment. If anything, it has become part of the charm of having Liz on assignment.
Beyond journalism and photography, Elizabeth is also a formidable contributor to the Siaya County Women’s Handball Team, where her contribution has been immense especially during KICCOSCA games. She brings the same determination, team spirit and energy to the court that she brings to her professional responsibilities.
Within the department, Liz has also distinguished herself as a motivational and dependable team player, jointly running the broadcast sub-unit alongside her colleagues. Together with designer Phillip Ofafa, photojournalist Samson Wire and the indefatigable head of PR, Grace Adhiambo, the team continues to deliver commendable work under the leadership of Director Chris Pilot.
ADVERTTheir collective effort is a reminder that effective public communication is not the work of one individual, but of a team of people who show up, learn continuously, support one another and get the job done.
So today, we celebrate Liz — the reporter, photographer, broadcaster, handballer, motivator and, above all, the determined professional who refuses to be defined by what she did not have at the beginning, but by what she has made of what she has learned along the way.
