ADVERTSiaya Deputy Governor CPA Dr William Oduol Denge has categorically dismissed reports that he intends to contest the Siaya Senate seat in the 2027 General Election, describing the claims as propaganda.
Speaking exclusively to Siaya Today, Oduol was unequivocal in rejecting the speculation.
“This is propaganda. Not sure where this has come from but there is no iota of truth there,” he said.
The declaration removes one of Siaya’s most politically consequential figures from a Senate race already attracting considerable attention.
Oduol, who is widely credited with playing a significant role in buoying the James Orengo gubernatorial ticket in the 2022 election, has remained a formidable presence in Siaya politics. His reputation for financial discipline, institutional accountability and insistence on transparent governance has continued to shape perceptions of his political profile.
ADVERTWhile ruling himself out of the Senate contest, Oduol reiterated his support for strengthening devolution and wished all those seeking the Senate seat well, including Senator Dr Oburu Oginga, who is currently recuperating in Dubai.
But his denial is unlikely to end speculation about his political future.
If anything, it sharpens attention on the question that has increasingly dominated Siaya politics: What next for William Oduol?
Earlier this year, Oduol openly indicated that he would seek the Siaya governorship in 2027. His latest position, however, comes against a rapidly changing political landscape in which several prominent figures are positioning themselves for the county’s top seat.
Oduol has lately been engaged in consultations with fellow political actors and, more importantly, listening to the electorate. That approach could suggest a deliberate attempt to keep his options open while the political terrain continues to crystallise.
His political significance cannot easily be dismissed. As Deputy Governor, he occupies a strategic position within the current county administration. As a former running mate who helped deliver the Orengo ticket in 2022, he also possesses first-hand knowledge of the alliances, networks and political calculations that shaped that election.
His journey since 2022 has further elevated his profile. The impeachment attempt against him by the Siaya County Assembly and his subsequent survival at the Senate gave him an additional national political profile while exposing the deep institutional and political tensions within the county administration.
That history makes Oduol’s next move potentially consequential.
For now, however, he has made one thing abundantly clear: the Senate is not his destination.
Whether that leaves the governorship firmly on his radar, or whether his consultations eventually produce an entirely different political arrangement, remains to be seen.
What is certain is that William Oduol remains a political factor that cannot be wished away. In Siaya’s increasingly fluid 2027 succession politics, his eventual decision could significantly reshape the alignment of forces around the county’s most coveted political office.
For the moment, the message from Oduol is simple and unequivocal: count him out of the Senate race—but do not count him out of Siaya’s 2027 political equation.
