Speaking in Meru County at the burial of the late Laban Murungi, Oburu said Kenyans ignored Raila when he offered himself for the presidency for the fifth time yet they wanted him now to rescue them from a bad regime they installed in power.
Despite criticism by youth dubbed Gen Z who have labelled Raila a sellout, Oburu clarified that Raila’s role in joining government was critical as it was the only means to bring back stability after the youth revolt.

Oburu expressly asked Kenyans to tone down their criticism of Raila Odinga over his decision to work with President William Ruto.
“Our country must remain united. Raila is very big-hearted. For five years, he supported Uhuru Kenyatta without asking him to give him ministers, because he wanted to bring the mountain closer to us. We were expecting that when Raila now stands to be president, the mountain would give him reciprocal treatment, but as fate would have it, that did not happen, and Uhuru warned you people, and told you that you would cry, now when you are crying, you want Raila to come and rescue you. How does he do it?”
Critics have pointed out that Raila has lost his moral compass by joining a regime that propagates injustice.
In the meantime the doyen of Kenya’s opposition politics Raila Amollo Odinga has utilized every opportunity he addresses the public to explain that he is not substantively in government but is only pursuing a Memorandum of Understanding with President Dr William Samoei Ruto.
Speaking at the burial of the late Murungi, Raila endorsed the formation of a broad-based government, stating that it has brought stability to the country. He challenged critics to offer alternative leadership solutions to propel the country forward rather than merely criticizing the current system
Raila has expressed concern that excessive activism against the government was hindering progress, warning that if the current administration remained entangled in political disputes and efforts to change leadership, the country could be in a worse state by the time Kenya goes to the 2027 elections.
He said that the inclusion of ODM Party experts in government was to ensure service trickled down to the ordinary mwananchi and was not self-serving as his critics claimed.
Meanwhile, Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo who is a son-in-law to the late Laban Murungi urged leaders to uphold democratic principles at all cost.
In his tribute speech, Governor Orengo spoke about the importance of ideal democratic principles for leaders, reflecting on the struggles of the “Young Turks” during the fight for multiparty democracy. He urged the country’s leadership to consistently uphold justice and do what is right. Orengo also expressed gratitude to all the leaders who joined him at the funeral, acknowledging their support during this trying occasion.
