Police confirmed that a female trader operating an M-Pesa and gas refilling outlet at the busy market is in custody following the violent confrontation that occurred on Monday evening. The suspect, whose identity is being withheld, is alleged to have attacked a woman believed to have been cohabiting with her husband during a period of separation caused by domestic disagreements.
Witnesses say the suspect confronted the pregnant woman in a heated exchange before allegedly stabbing her. The victim was rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital, where doctors confirmed that the foetus she was carrying was dead on arrival.
Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to a medical facility in Kisumu for specialized treatment. Unverified reports indicate that she later succumbed to her injuries, potentially raising the death toll to two.
