The County Government of Siaya today received an avalanche of medical consignments consisting of two X-ray machines for Sigomere Health Centre, in Ugunja sub county and Akala Health Centre in Gem sub county.
The two AI functioned state of the art x-ray machines worth KES 32 million is a boost to the healthcare for the Nyalore administration given the dynamics and challenges that continue to dog the health sector. This will tremendously ensure his blue print on provision of health care for the County.
In another development, the AMREF Africa and World Bicycles Relief, donated two hundred and ten (210) bicycles starting with fifty today to be distributed in Alego Usonga, with the rest going to other Sub counties. The medical consignments include a Colpo scope machine costing KES 8m the medical machine is used for cancer diagnostics, ultra sound machine for numerous health conditions, microscope, vortex for use in the laboratory, urine specimen containers, and assorted medical laboratory equipment.
The donations from AMREF are worth KES 18m and are meant for the Siaya County Referral Hospital, Bondo sub county and various health centres dotted across the County.
The mobility bicycles from the World Bicycles Relief will go towards enhancing smooth mobility for Community Health Promoters stationed at different sub county hospitals. In addition they will enhance service delivery in areas of maternal healthcare by improving access to and from in-patient support systems in rural areas.
They will also aid in provision of much needed services by CHPs like counselling services. Additionally they could be used for delivery of medicines for patients that require much attention and are under care from the county health centres.
Earlier on, the County Government Public Communication’s staff led by Public Relations Manager Grace Adhiambo, who represented The Director Chrispine Omondi, received Community health workers also known as Nyamrerwa from Gem Sub county.
The group paid a courtesy call to learn the duties of the department and how best to utilize them in the field.
Community health workers are core in fulfilling the mandate of the Governor James Orengo blueprint on healthcare across the six Sub-counties. They are tasked with assisting expectant mothers and neo-natals in reaching and getting access to government medical services in various health centres and different levels of hospitals.
The County Government of Siaya led by Governor James Orengo has ensured that this special group of health workers are given stipends and allowances that could enable them pursue decent livelihoods so that service delivery in general healthcare and maternal health may continue uninterrupted.
In addition they have been provided with easy to operate bicycles as means of transportation so that patients with dire need could easily be reached for support programmes.
